Jack Lumber: He’s a Lumberjack and He’s Okay.
Have you ever thought that Fruit Ninja had way too much fruit in it and a severe lack of logs? Well Owlchemy Labs has just the game for you. It’s a bit unfair to compare Jack Lumber to that other touchscreen classic, but it does have the same essential gameplay. You have to slice objects with your finger as they are tossed on screen.
Jack Lumber’s Grandmother has been killed by a tree, and he sets out in to the forest seeking revenge on all arboreal life, whilst saving a collection of animals that he keeps in his log cabin. As you would.
Jack Lumber takes a simple premise and chucks in a few of its own ideas to spice things up. Firstly each level of this Android game is a puzzle that is the same every time you play it, rather than a random series of things to slice. Logs can only be cut in certain ways, some requiring multiple passes or a change of direction half way through, whilst others are ‘one way’ logs. The key to success in Lumber Time – as soon as you touch the screen time slows and you must dissect each piece of wood with one continuous movement, so getting your path right is essential.
Thankfully Granny has left a few bonuses in her cupboard that you can equip, making things easier. You can wear different beards too (yes you read that right) that actually make the game harder, but increase your potential score.
Jack Lumber is a very good game with a surprising amount of variety, and will keep you chopping for a long time to come.
