Google Play Gives You Presents for Its First Birthday

untitled

Talk about a deal, how would you like to receive presents just for celebrating someone else’s birthday?

It’s been a year since our beloved Google Play store has launched. Wow, how time flies.  It seems like only 365+ days ago that the Android store decided to change its name to Google Play suddenly. It was then we got to see an amazing, organized marketplace full of anything from magazines to Sudoku apps for our Android devices.

In celebration of this joyous occassion, Google has decided to celebrate by giving away free stuff to its users.  Android faithful can get a number of things for free or discounts, such as the pilot episode of everyone’s favorite Meth advocacy show, Breaking BadPerhaps music is your thing?  Tracks from The Velvet Underground or LCD Soundsystem can be yours for the low cost of nothing.  Maybe you like free things that aren’t apps?  Google Play is also giving you two apps designed for giftcards which give you free giftcards just for signing up for their services. There’s also cheaper Hotels through the Hotels.com app, a free e-book and half off Kung Fu Panda (if you can tolerate Jack Black’s voice for that long…)

But we’re an Android game site, so where’s the info about games?  Never fear Android disciples, Google has bestowed upon thee not one, but three free games via it’s 1 yr celebration.  Royal Revolt is a opposite world Tower Defense (Platformer?) game that through this limited time offer, includes a custom map and half off in game micro transactions. Want to build yourself some Gnome villages in space?  Disney’s (TM) Gnome Village is also one of the free games for Google Play’s birthday for those who enjoy city building games.  Finally if you just like destroying and flinging stuff, Yumby Smash is available for zero gold dubloons, featuring a brand new character just for Google Play’s birthday. This game lets users fling their little Yumby into all sorts of bricks and obstacles, using special abilities to get through them in the process.

Google Play is well known for giving away free stuff to celebrate their milestones. In 2012, to celebrate 25 billion app downloads, Google Play gave a whole bunch of games a Wal-Mart style price slash, selling games such as Fifa 12, for the low price of $0.25.  Google is also known to do weekly freebees for music and other things in the Google Play stores to give those users a bite of what the Google Play store has to offer.  Try getting Apple to give away things just for being part of their collective?

These deals are expected to last through the week. Though we have no knowledge of anything additional, don’t be surprised if the Silicon Valley giant decides to throw a special surprise or two in this deal sometime later in the week. Some people may try to tell you there’s no such thing as a free lunch.  However, if you’re an Android user, there are such things as free apps.
