The 5 Best Android Multiplayer Games
Jon Krakauer wrote in his book, Into the Wild, that happiness is only real when shared. It proves to be true in video games as it is more fun when you play games with your friends, family or significant other. Multiplayer gaming in the Google Play Store has evolved together with the Android marketplace. This week, we look at the five best Android multiplayer games. The list may come in handy especially when you’re looking for quick entertainment while waiting for your order at a restaurant, queuing in line for a blockbuster movie or just whenever your friends crash your place. Some of the games are pass-and-play for one device, cross-platform multiplayer or just plain casual games.
Last March 2012, Zynga acquired OMGPOP at the time of their peak with Draw Something, a Pictionary-like mobile game. You may even consider it as a pastime instead of a video game, playing with your fingers as if you’re Pablo Picasso. Even with its asynchronous gameplay, this simple title delightfully engages and entertains, giving you the impression that your opponent is next to you. The fun almost never stopped as it is probably one the most enjoyable social game I experienced on my smartphone. In the first week of June 2013, however, Zynga shuts down OMGPOP which is sad news for gamers. The second installment of Draw Something was released on iOS devices last April, and it was most likely too little too late for the company to salvage what’s left of this picture guessing game.
If you’re a fan of strategy games, Leviathan Warships offers amazing graphics with robust editor for your ship. Its online multiplayer mode has depth thanks to the cross platform capability. Yes, it isn’t perfect, particularly with controls, though playing online against human opponents is as good as it gets. Competitive players would get thrilled with the thought of not having to deal with AI. It is a mix of a slow turn-based strategy and RTS which centers on engaging multiplayer nautical encounters where you create your own fleets. If you practice the quote patience is a virtue then you can definitely have fun with this deep naval simulation. Read our Leviathan Warships review and check why it was rated a perfect 5 Woofs.
Zach Gage’s high-quality word game, SpellTower, is awesome thanks to its easy to understand mechanics, beautifully made art and nice soundtrack. If you have a weakness in letters and loves word games and/or Tetris, then this is a good addition in your games library. SpellTower is a word game that features a complete package. It is nearly perfect even without the stunning graphics as this brainteaser is well-designed and maddeningly addictive with its enticing simplicity. I would consider this as a must-buy if you want to try to test your vocabulary with your friends or special someone. Check out our review of SpellTower and see why it scored 4.5 out of 5 Woofs.
Slingshot Racing is a good game with a cool concept and more than enough gameplay to keep you hooked. It has a fresh take on racing games with visuals that is both eye-candy and detailed, simple controls and smooth animations. An online multiplayer game mode would have put this atop the list, nevertheless, same device multiplayer action would do. It still provides lots of fun even on quick spurts, making this racing game an ideal pick-up-and-play. Though the turning system is hard to master, this Crescent Moon Games title is worth a spin in your collection. I may consider this fast-paced racer as one of the best multiplayer games you could play on one device. I don’t think there’s more I could ask for in this creative arcade racing game. Read our Slingshot Racing review where we rated it 4.5 out of 5 Woofs.
Challenge two to four of your friends in a quick, smooth reaction multiplayer game on a single device. Test your reflexes, common sense and know-how. I could see this game from cool cherry trees to be played at home against my own siblings to decide on who would do the dishes. It features 28 types of mini-games available in 12 various languages. You can adjust the difficulty setting from easy to hard even up to insane. I love its adaptive multiplayer mode which makes it harder for the frontrunner to increase its lead.
